Dudley Museums Service comprises three Local Authority run venues:
Dudley Museum combines permanent collections of art, geology and fossils with contemporary exhibitions, local interest shows and hands-on exhibitions related to the school curriculum. We have a popular and successful primary education programme running until March 2009 - The Greeks. This will be replaced by 'Invaders & Settlers'.
The Red House Glass Cone was built at the end of the 18th century and was used for the manufacture of glass. It is over 100 feet tall and lies on the Stourbridge canal. The site offers education packages, pre-booked tours, live glassmaking and combines an historic site with exhibitions and craft studios. We have a popular and successful education programme running until end of 2009 - 'The Romans.'
Broadfield House Glass Museum is situated in the historic Stourbridge Glass Quarter. It is one of the best glass museums in the world. It has a magnificent collection of British glass, much of it made locally , dating from the 17th century up to the present day. There is a hot glass studio, run by talented local glassmaker Allister Malcolm, where visitors can watch the glassmakers at work Wednesday - Sunday. We run free pre-school storytelling sessions 'Exhibitales' every Thursday. School visits are focused on local history.
We hosted a student teacher placement in March 2008.
