All Hallows is a Grade 1 listed church with a historic Crypt Museum attached which highlights over 1300 years of London history. In 1666 the Great Fire of London started a few hundred yards from the church. William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, was baptised in the church in 1644. John Quincy Adams, sixth President of the United States, was married here in 1797.
During the Blitz in 1940, the church was almost completely destroyed, although the bombs revealed an original Saxon arch containing Roman tiles. All Hallows posseses one of the most perfectly preserved tessellated Roman pavements in the City of London, dated late 2nd century. It is a floor of a domestic house and has a gully in it thought to be the position of a wall showing plaster at the edges. Further Saxon and Roman artefacts are now on display in the Crypt Museum, along with ancient church registers and fascinating items relating to the history of the City, including a Knights Templar altar. All Hallows also has a brass rubbing centre and is keen to develop its educational programme, focusing on RE, history, art and citizenship.
