Cornwall Archive and Local Studies Service holds primary and secondary sources covering all aspects of Cornwall's history and heritage. As well as preserving these sources for future generations, we use them to inform, inspire and entertain poeple of all ages and abilities. The service offers a wide range of resources and expertise to teachers, schools and education professionals. Our resources can be used across the curriculum and at all levels of a learning journey.

We hold parish and electoral registers, church records, wills, maps and plans, poor law records, court records, maritime and mining records, newspapers, books, directories and photographs. We hold the archives of many families and estates, businesses and solicitors, local authorities and councils, societies,  schools and local organisations.

The service can provide a wealth of learning and development opportunities for pupils, students and education professionals, including:

  • Hosting school visits and visiting schools
  • Resource packs and loans boxes
  • Web based resources
  • Providing copies of original documents
  • Exhibitions
  • Funded partnership projects (e.g. Learning Links)
  • Work experience (for students and teachers)
  • Advising teachers
  • CPD opportunities and training
