The King's College London PGCE combines the theory and practice of education and we work in close partnership with schools in designing and delivering our programme. Currently for 24 of the 36 weeks the training takes place in schools, mainly in two secondary schools but with a short primary school experience at the beginning and another one near the end of the programme, to raise awareness about progression from primary to secondary school.
As a student at King’s, you will have access to research seminars by leading academics, high quality study facilities as well as the excellent social and cultural opportunities of the capital. The programme is very intensive and most student teachers find that they are unable to do part-time work during this time.
We aim to enable trainees to:
Reach the standards required for QTS
Become reflective practitioners who can evaluate their own practice
Develop high standards of professionalism and classroom practice as subject teachers, in their pastoral role and as members of the whole school community
Link practice in schools to recent and relevant research, including the renowned work undertaken at King's
Become aware of the broader educational context
King’s College London is one of the top 25 universities in the world (Times Higher 2007) and the fourth oldest in England. A research-led university based in the heart of London, King’s has an outstanding reputation for providing world-class teaching and cutting-edge research.
