Durham Secondary Applied SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training) offers the opportunity to train to teach vocational subjects to the 14-19 age range.
The SCITT has been created through a partnership of the majority of secondary schools in County Durham, and it enjoys great support from the Local Authority and from the Learning Skills Council. The Lead School is Woodham Community Technology College, in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, and the partnership stretches from Barnard Castle in the West, to Stanley in the North, and out to Peterlee in the East. All schools in the partnership share a commitment to providing an increased range of opportunities for young people, through offering a varied and appropriate curriculum.
All of the partnership schools have considerable experience of supporting trainee teachers in a variety of subjects. Trainees undergo placements in at least two of the partnership schools, and may be given the opportunity to gain some experience in one of the local Further Education Colleges. On each placement trainees are allocated a Subject Tutor and a School Tutor who support and guide them as they progress through their training.
