Subject specialism:
PGCE Secondary Education

Areas of interest:
I'm interested in all our subject areas as I coordinate the programme across all 10 subject areas. Work with multi-agencies and child support is of special interest in the short term.

We are a large provider of Secondary training in 10 subjects: English, Geography, History, IT, Maths, MFL, Music, PE, RE, Science, training up to 270 students each year. We provide for large cohorts in Maths (45) and Science (65). We work with a large partnership of schools across Dorset, Isle of Wight, Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire and Wiltshire. As individual tutors we have links with local activities in our subject areas and have been involved in a wide range of learning opportunities beyond the course including making use of local history tours, museum visits, work with literature festivals, science field trips and mathematical investigations beyond the region.

We want to respond to the new National Curriculum expectations of learning taking place in a wide range of settings and the Every Child Matters agenda where the work of multi-agencies with children and families becomes a bit more visible.

The trainees spend 1/3 of their time with us and 2/3 of the time in partner schools. Our general programme of induction and education in wider professional themes has room for extension and expansion with the right partners to enable trainees to learn further about teaching outside the classroom. These would have to be carefully developed and costed to ensure that the experiences fitted with the development of students against QTS standards and wider professional interests.
