Evaluating placements in settings other than schools is essential to record trainee teachers learning experiences and assess their ability to meet the QTS Standards.
Evaluating placements produces useful information for all partners involved including:
- informing future development of placements and providing a quality offer to trainee teachers
- evidence for embedding the learning from placements into further work
- evidence supporting the use and development of quality education programmes in settings other than schools
Use the Evaluation framework to measure the impact of placements on trainee teachers. The templates in the evaluation framework should be used from the beginning of the planning stage and throughout the placement to capture the evidence required to determine whether the placement has met its objectives.
In the evaluation framework you will find information on:
- setting aims and objectives and learning outcomes of the placement for all partners involved
- mapping the outcomes of the placement to the QTS Standards
- templates for recording qualitative and quantitative evidence throughout the placement process
- ways to analyse your evidence
- creating a final evaluation report of the placement
The evaluation framework should be completed in collaboration with all partners, normally led by the ITT provider although in some cases it may be more appropriate for the setting to take the lead. This should be agreed during the planning stage.
The framework can be used by any ITT provider using any of the placement models described on this website.
