Placement models provide two basic routes to follow when developing and managing placements
Critical success factors for managing placements identified by ITT providers and settings already running placements
ITT providers, settings other than schools and trainee teachers should read the guidance and use the checklists on this website to develop successful placements.
Successful placements rely on building strong partnerships. Each placement should be built around the needs and interests of all partners involved. It is advisable to draw up a partnership agreement at the earliest possible stage.
To develop a successful placement all partners should:
- search the database for potential partners
- undertake joint planning between all partners to define the aims and objectives and the type of placement. See What kind of placement?, Placement models and case studies for examples of different placement models
- decide on the activities trainees will undertake on placement
- plan to embed the learning from the placement into further work
ITT providers should plan training for settings other than schools staff to build awareness of initial teacher training and assessment, and to quality assure the placements. For an example of how training has been given to setting staff see the York St John University case study.
