AT A GLANCE

PGCE students attend the training session together with museum educators. The digital arts training was led by a digital artist and puppeteer. The learners worked together to make a movie based on still images of Segedunum. After this they a created lesson plan on how they would incorporate a visit (including pre- and post-visit planning) into their teaching.

  • New ideas on how to use a museum space and how to incorporate all of this into a scheme of work
  • Partnership working skills
  • New networks with other teachers and museum educators

Museum Educators also developed new partnerships and an understanding of current educational issues and trainee concerns.

I enjoyed and felt inspired by...

“The digital artists – very engaging and formative information exchanged.”

“Going around the museum to take photographs – it brought the topic to life.”

“Sharing ideas, schemes of work and approaches, hands on!”

I now feel I understand better...

“The need to experiment, and to prepare for technological problems before taking this to a classroom.”

“How to incorporate digital media in a more creative, open-minded way.”

“How digital art might be used for visits to museums.”

Something I tried today that I’d try again...

“Supplying cameras to see what children focus on”

“Blind-folding a pupil to explore vocabulary and sensory experiences.”

Skills I gained or improved today...

“Use of museums and digital art to inform students.”

“Working with museums and galleries. Working with other people.”

“Knowledge of possibilities, how to bring it into the classroom more”

Something I experienced today has changed my attitude about...

“Using a digital camera can be just as fun and appropriate – you don’t have to use video to make a movie!”

“Crossing drama with art – its great!”
